JasonOg says, "I've just been picking out facts and data to include in my essay"

JasonOg says, "My paper is about the legalization of marijuana, and my two points are that it has medical uses, and that two many people are going to jail for pocession. Can these two topics fit in the same essay"
MaggieCa says, "I think they can. those are two valid points of why it should be legalized"
JasonOg says, "I have a real original topic"
Mr.Cole says, "Sure, Jason (I think peter gorman, for example, manages to cover both). Somewhere though, you'll have to deal with the objection that pot is a dangerous intoxicant."
JasonOg says, "why"
MaggieCa says, "that is why it is illegal"
Mr.Cole says, "Because that's most people's objection, right. that's why they want to put people who get caught with it in jail."
JasonOg says, "I have a question though, in all the material I've read, alot for prohibition of drugs, not once have I heard why it is dangerous"
JasonOg says, "what is dangerous"
Mr.Cole says, "Well, that can be one of your points. I think William bennet (one of the readings I posted) comes closest to actually saying it is, though he's not especially convincing."
JasonOg says, "I'll read it, but I am curious of the serious dangers"

Mr.Cole says, "It is the contention of marijuana advocates that pot is at least as safe, if not moreso, than alcohol or nicotine. But there's still this stigma attached to pot that halps keep it illegal. "
MaggieCa crys because she doesn't feel good
JasonOg says, "When confronting the dangers, should it be in my conclusion, or have it's own paragraph"

Mr.Cole says, "You could combine it with the 'too many people are going to jail for it' point. Really it is essential to that. You wouldn't argue that murder should be legal just because too many people are being jailed for it."
FrankBl says, "that will work for the sinus but take advil for the fever"
MaggieCa says, "okay"
JasonOg says, "wait a minute, the point is that these people going to jail are regular family members who have not done anything to hurt anyone"
JasonOg says, "why should they be in prison for twenty years without parole for smoking pot"
JasonOg says, "murder is totally different"
Mr.Cole says, "Ah, but that is getting into the question of whether pot is dangerous or not. We all accept that murder is bad, so there's no question about jailing people for it. The point of debate with pot is precisel whether it is bad or not
."

JasonOg says, "maybe the first paragraph after my intro should be the one adressing the dangers of pot"
