JulieOw says, "Ok I have a topic, If we are considered adults
at 18, can go to war for our country, vote, why the hell can't we drink"
JasonOg says, "Okay,that sounds like a good one to debate for
today"
MaggieCa says, "good idea"
JasonOg says, "and Julie, you have already made two good
arguments"
JulieOw says, "but I don't really know anyone in this class
who is going to argue it"
JasonOg says, "But I guess for this conversation I will have
to play the Devil's advocate"
JulieOw says, "go for ti"
JulieOw says, "it"
NickSm says, "how do you think that should be argued in favor
of it?"
JulieOw says, "in favor of the drinking age being 21?"
JasonOg says, "If the majority of the country thought we were
capable to handle the right to drink by the age 18, then the laws would
be changed."
JasonOg says, "but the majority does not"
MaggieCa says, "I totally agree with that, but there are some
18 year olds that don't have enough responsibility for themselves that
shouldn't drink"
JasonOg says, "18 year olds are not mature enough "
JasonOg says, "Yet, there are people older than 21 that are
not mature enough to drink"
NickSm says, "so should there be a test of some sort or
credentials that one needs in order to obtain the ability to drink before
the age of 21?"
MaggieCa says, "possibly those sophomores or juniors in high
school that have been held back"
MaggieCa says, "those 18 year old ones"
JasonOg says, "Why not a test, You have to take one if you
want to drive"
MaggieCa says, "what sort of credentials would you have to
have to obtain that ability"
JasonOg says, "Maybe there should be a special license for
drinking, which you are eligibel at the age of 18"
JasonOg says, "eligible"
JulieOw says, "how could they really prove you were mature"
JulieOw says, "or could handle that"
NickSm says, "anything that would show responsibility. Maybe
a course about alcohol that would have to be passed in order to get
recognition"
JasonOg says, "they can't prove you're mature enough to drive"
JasonOg says, "good idea Nick"
JulieOw says, "it should come with a regualtions, ie if you
get a dui it is revoked until you are 21"
NickSm says, "preferably something harder than the driving
test. and something that would have to be renewed per year."
JasonOg says, "personally, I believe If you get a dui, you
should either lose your right to drive, or your right to drink"
MaggieCa says, "or both"
MaggieCa says, "how could you lose your right to drink?"
FrankBl has arrived.
FrankBl says, "sorry I am late"
JasonOg says, "this brings up another point, enought teenagers
are killed in driving accidents not involving alcohlo as it is, what will
happen when they get the right to drink"
MaggieCa says, "we aren't allowed to drink, and we don't have
legal identification that would allow us to buy alcohol, but somehow we
manage to get it"
JasonOg says, "I realize this, I do it every weekend"
MaggieCa says, "i know"
NickSm says, "hopefully they would be educated to prevent
this. just think of all the legal drinkers who are not made to learn
about drinking and then end up dead"
FrankBl says, "page cole I had to be some where at 3:20 and I
was just telling you I would be a bit late"
JasonOg says, "try again Frank"
FrankBl says, "what are we taking about"
FrankBl says, "I got it thanks"
JasonOg says, "18 year olds being able to drink legally"
MaggieCa says, "but what i am trying to say is that you can't
revoke a person's write to drink unless they were under 24 hour
supervision"
MaggieCa says, "right"
FrankBl says, "I think if you did lower the age it would be safer"
MaggieCa says, "how"
FrankBl says, "most people go out and get drunk to rebel"
JasonOg says, "I'm talking about in the scenario of getting a
license to drink magge"
JasonOg says, "you can't stop someone from driving either
without 24 hour supervision"
MaggieCa says, "well that is kind of what a 21 lisence is right?"
MaggieCa says, "good point"
JasonOg says, "but for 18 year olds"
FrankBl says, "In foreign countries where they do not have a
drinking age they have no problem with half of what we do"
JasonOg says, "but only a small percentage of them drive"
JulieOw says, "I know "
MaggieCa says, "you can drink before you can drive in those
countries"
JasonOg says, "I find the only problem with drinking is people
who drive while intoxicated"
MaggieCa says, "and it's not a big deal to those 16 year olds
that drink"
NickSm has disconnected.
MaggieCa says, "or that are allowed to drink"
FrankBl says, "true, but I think that if it is more accessable
to you the less likely you are to get drunk and do stupid things"
NickSm has connected.
JasonOg says, "drinking is not that big of a deal"
MaggieCa says, "well I think that it has to do with the society"
FrankBl says, "I agree"
JasonOg says, "it just has to be controlled"
JasonOg says, "if it were up to me, drugs would be legal"
JulieOw says, "we are brought up to think it is this
privilege"all drugs"
FrankBl says, "I would not go that far"
JulieOw says, "sorry about that..Jason all drugs?"
JasonOg says, "I know it sounds crazy, but researchers have
found that by legalizing drugs, crime would drop"
FrankBl says, "I think that drugs should be made legal for
doctors but not just to use whenever"
MaggieCa says, "I don't drink because I want to rebel. I drink
because it tastes good and I have fun. But I am also careful and
resposible."
JulieOw says, "exactly Maggie"
FrankBl says, "I do to but in high school I did it to rebel in
8 and 9 grade"
JasonOg says, "I'm not the biggest fan of the taste, but the
other benefits are quite nice"
MaggieCa says, "wow you started early Frank"
FrankBl says, "I love the taste of a good beer"
MaggieCa says, "me too!"
FrankBl says, "Is that bad"
JasonOg says, "I love the feeling of an ice cold beer"
JulieOw says, "not at all"
MaggieCa says, "no not at all"
FrankBl says, "just checking"
JasonOg says, "with a pizza and cigarettes"
FrankBl says, "when did ya'll start drinking"
JasonOg says, "eigth grade"
FrankBl says, "see"
JulieOw says, "but responsible drinkers, like us, get upstaged
by stupid drunk drivers so we are all categorized to be immature"
JasonOg says, "I was on the football team, drinking was a
necessity"
MaggieCa says, "a little my freshman year in high school, and
then progressivly more"
FrankBl says, "I agree to that one"
JulieOw says, "freshman year in highschool"
MaggieCa says, "but i don't think i did it to rebel"
FrankBl says, "ya'll started about when I did"
JasonOg says, "the first time a drank, I got caught by my Mom"
NickSm says, "zima was my first drink... haha"

FrankBl says, "it took me till end of my junior year to get caught"
JulieOw says, "that was a winner"

MaggieCa says, "i had the fear of God in me about what my
parents would do if they found out. I did it then to have fun too"
JulieOw says, "my parents didn't care as long as I wasn't
driving"
JulieOw says, "or riding with anyone who was drinking"
JasonOg says, "My parents were cool about it as long as I
didn't drive or ride with anyone who was drunk"
MaggieCa says, "I didn't get caught until my junior year
either and it wasn't pretty"
FrankBl says, "after I got caught about five straight weekends
they did not care as long as I was not driving"
JasonOg says, "Julie, your parents are like mine"
JulieOw says, "yeah it was pretty cool"
MaggieCa says, "mine don't ask anymore"
JasonOg says, "my mom will buy it for me now"
JasonOg says, "because I've proved to her that I can drink
responsibily"
FrankBl says, "my parents would rather buy it than have me buy it"
MaggieCa says, "they know exactly what goes on at UGA"
JulieOw says, "mine too"
NickSm says, "my parents tried to tell me that drinking would
stunt my growth...of course i also believe that they smoke crack, but i
can't prove it."

MaggieCa says, "let's get back to our assignment for today"

JasonOg says, "Yeah, and its your topic Julie"
FrankBl says, "what is our assigment"
JasonOg says, "take someones topic and analyze it"
FrankBl says, "do ya'll already know your topics"
MaggieCa says, "nope"

JulieOw says, "not really just playing around with a few"
FrankBl says, "I have about two that I am thinking about using"
MaggieCa says, "is our 1st draft really due Fri.?"
JulieOw says, "yep"
FrankBl says, "yes"
MaggieCa says, "great"
JasonOg says, "I'm jsut going to pick one of Mr.C's"
FrankBl says, "he did not give any"
JasonOg says, "I think he has"
JulieOw says, "not on the assignment page"
JasonOg says, "I read something that said Paper 4 Topics are
now ready'"
JulieOw says, "but on the assignment page he said we had to
choose our own"
JulieOw says, "that we should have plenty to choose from"
JasonOg says, "I will look around after class"
FrankBl says, "I will post it if you want me to but there are
no topics"
MaggieCa says, "okay"
MaggieCa says, "now what"
JasonOg says, "anymore arguments for or against Julie's topic"
MaggieCa says, "are we meeting in the big classroom again
today to state our argument?"
MaggieCa says, "and what is our argument anyway"
JasonOg says, "If we are, we are running out of time, the
assignment didn't say that we were"
FrankBl says, "what is Julie's topic"
MaggieCa says, "cool"
JasonOg says, "I've told you three times Frank"
JulieOw says, "if we can fight for our country, vote, and are
classified adults, why can't we drink at age 18"
MaggieCa says, "i'm about to have a heat stroke"
FrankBl says, "I am sorry I am very forgetful"

JulieOw says, "just kidding"
JasonOg says, "I want to have one more class at Park Hall,
just so I can put some names with faces"

it is really weird"
