GeraldLa says, "my paper isn't even close to being finished, i'm kindof stuck"
JenniferCa says, "hehe, we are such procastinators!"
GeraldLa says, "but i posted what i had"
JulieOw says, "I am the queen procrastinator"
JenniferCa says, "i finished my paper today right before class"
NickSm has arrived.
GeraldLa says, "good job"
NickSm goes out.
JulieOw says, "at least you finished yours"
JenniferCa says, "i thought they were due friday"
JulieOw says, "I did too"
MiMa says, "nope, thursday"
JenniferCa says, "i guess we know that now"

MiMa says, "julie, did you get your paper going?"
MaggieCa says, "Hi y'all, i am joining your group today"
JulieOw says, "yeah I got it going but not where I want it yet"
JulieOw says, "are you serious maggie"
MaggieCa says, "yes mam"
MiMa says, "isn't that the truth"
JenniferCa says, "i think my paper is stupid"
JulieOw says, "how come, not that we care"
MaggieCa says, "Because Nick and I are the only ones here from group 3 so Mr. C. split us up"
MaggieCa says, "Hope y'all don't mind"
MiMa says, "hey maggie, we are together asgain!"
JulieOw says, "Jenny, what I read looked pretty good, you had a good thesis statement that looked like it would make an interesting paper"
MaggieCa says, "Yea!"
MaggieCa says, "or however you spell it "
JenniferCa says, "i changed the second paragraph a lot though and after that it just falls apart"
JulieOw says, "well the intro was good"
JenniferCa says, "the intro is always the easiest for me"
MiMa says, "i think all the intros are good, it is the rest that needs work"
MaggieCa says, "Is it OK if our papers are only 4 paragraphs"
MiMa says, "yes"
JenniferCa says, "im sure it is maggie as long as it is suppoted well"
JulieOw says, "I think so if you get your point accross"
MaggieCa says, "cool"
JenniferCa says, "or supported"
MaggieCa says, "Mr. C told me to get out of the 5 paragraph essay mode. It's hard, but I'm trying"
JulieOw says, "Mi Anne how is your paper going? I know you weren't happy yesterday"
JenniferCa says, "i never intend on the 5 paragraph..it just ends up that way"
JulieOw says, "ditto"
MaggieCa says, "me too"
JulieOw says, "because we have been trained to write 5 par. essays forever"
MaggieCa says, "exactly"
MaggieCa says, "An intro, 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion"
MiMa says, "it's going. "
JulieOw says, "so now whenever I write my mind just thinks to write that way old habits are hard to break"
Mr.Cole has arrived.
Mr.Cole says, "How are you doing?"
GeraldLa says, "i'm going to read some of the papers"
MaggieCa says, "Okay"
JulieOw says, "Jerry in your intro I don't really know what you are going to write about"
MaggieCa says, "We were just discussing the 5 paragraph essay"
JulieOw says, "I mean I can't really tell"
Mr.Cole says, "I see."
MaggieCa says, "and how hard it is to get out of that format"
Mr.Cole says, "I know it's tough to break the habit. Again, my main issue with the 5-p essay is not that it is 5-p, but that it can be such a habit that it shapes the way you think about questions."
MaggieCa says, "anyway"

MaggieCa says, "The anyway was supposed to go before your answer, sorry"
JulieOw says, "so maggie what is your paper about"
MaggieCa says, "How we cannot retreat back to old ways of living, without technology"

Mr.Cole says, "I just took a look at Jerry's intro. He does a nice job of providing background for the technology question. As Julie suggests, the thesis is not as clear as it might be. I do see the germ of on near the end though: "As students
we have to learn as much about technology to be able to keep up with the changing trends in the industry." "

Mr.Cole says, "Are you all reading, or what?"
JulieOw says, "I know a big problem in my essay is I use the word technology SOOO much what can I do to fix it, I just couldn't think of another word"
JulieOw says, "yeah I have everyone's essays here and I am looking for things to talk about"

MiMa says, "me too. what else can we use?"

JulieOw says, "you might want to scroll up b/c we were talking about your intro Jerry"
JulieOw says, "didn't know you weren't here"

Mr.Cole says, "I see what you mean, Julie, especially in your intro. That's a problem because there aren't a lot of synonyms for tech. Some judicious use of pronouns might help, though."
GeraldLa says, "Mr. Cole i didn't understand your last sentence about my intro"
JulieOw says, "okee dokee thanks"
Mr.Cole says, "Jerry, the sentnce I quoted is, I think, your thesis. You need to highlight that a little more."
GeraldLa says, "i got it now"
JulieOw says, "so anyone else got suggestions? "
Mr.Cole says, "Glancing at Jenny's draft, I see a nice example of a middle of the road thesis: 'I do not think that it could be possible to lead a nontechnological life, but I do believe many things can be abolished and not so dependent.' This
defines a clear position between the extreme Luddite/utopian one and the complete techophile one. It also lays out the main points she will need to cover."
JenniferCa says, "is that good or bad?"
MaggieCa says, "good job Jenny"

MaggieCa says, "well from my standpoint that is"
JulieOw says, "told ya so Jenny"
Mr.Cole says, "That's good, Jenny. (The phrasing in the last part is a bit off, but that's easily fixed)."
MiMa says, "great jenny"
JenniferCa says, "how is the phrasing off Mr. Cole?"
Mr.Cole says, "There is a big difference between jenny's thesis and ta thesis like, 'Technology has many advantages, but it also can go to far.' This example is wishy-washy."
Mr.Cole says, "You say, '...I do believe many things can be abolished and not so dependent.' "can be abolished' and 'not so dependent' should be grammatically equivalent or 'parallel' phrases and they obviously are not."
JenniferCa says, "i see"
Mr.Cole says, "Something like 'I do believe we can become less dependent on technology by abolishing certain technologiees' migfht be better."
JenniferCa says, "ok"
