MaggieCa says, "well at first, he is trying to convey the importance of going to college."
MaggieCa says, "from there I'm not real sure."

JasonOg says, "I believe he dislikes liberal education , but he doesn't seem exited about studying just for a specialty"

KurtDa says, "I think he believes what college is and what college is percieved to be are entirely diffrent things."

Mr.Cole says, "Kurt's on to something. Bloom says "The university has to stand for something" (53), but his concern seems to be that it does not."
JasonOg says, "what's the problem with taking classes just to improve your intellect"
MaggieCa says, "who are you trying to prove it to , yourself or those around you?"
JasonOg says, "I didn't say prove, I said improve"

KurtDa says, "It's rather ironic that on page 55 he says that when the student comes in to the university wanting not to learn one particular thing but a variety of things to sastisfy his need to learn, the university and each department has no
thing really to say to that particular person. "

MaggieCa says, "that and I want to make a life for myself."

JasonOg says, "You see, I wish to improve my intellegence, but I'm attending college just so I can get a good job"

Mr.Cole says, "Jason, do you think a lot of students feel that way about college, that it's just something you have to do and not something intrinsically valuable?"

KurtDa says, "What's ironic about that is that, as Bloom says each department is competing with each other, yet it's called a university."

JasonOg says, "yes, I believe our generation is like that"
Mr.Cole says, "Actually, Frank's not really late. Or not much. "
MaggieCa says, "that's what almost everyone thinks"
FrankBl says, "that is the way mot of us were raised"
Mr.Cole says, "Rather disheartening, maggie."
JoeSa says, "My parents are pressuring me to get good grades"
MiMa says, "Mr. Cole, I think I'm here at college because I have to do it""
JasonOg says, "making a living today is more competitive"
FrankBl says, "I am glad to be here and love it but there was never a choice of not going"
MaggieCa says, "it is. we don't value knowledge like we should"
JoeSa says, "and plus, I have to take classes that I dont want to just to fulfill my major requirements"
KurtDa says, "I think a lot of students go to college to make their parents happy as opposed to making themselves happy"

JasonOg says, "I'm not attending college for my parents or myself, I'm doing it for my future children"

FrankBl says, "also a college degree is really important now in the buisness world and it is all by what college you go to for the most part"
Mr.Cole says, "Do you think college has become an extension of high school, a kind of mandatory stage to be called "educated"?"

JoeSa says, "If I won the lottery, I would still come to college but just to learn"
MiMa says, "College is supposed to teach me about the real world, but it really dosn't""

MaggieCa says, "the early philosophers felt the only reason for living was to gain knowledge, but a ;lot has changed"
JasonOg says, "now, graduate school is like college in the past"
Mr.Cole says, "Does college then begin to lose its meaning?"

JasonOg says, "the generation today has more economic problems and fears than thirty years ago"
MaggieCa says, "maybe high school doesn't prepare us enough for college then"
