MiMa says, "hi mr.cole. Shannon and I have to go to Gilbert to see a
doctor. Everyone on our hall has the flu, and we think we got it. We have to go at 4.'"
MiMa goes out.
NickSm has arrived.
MiMa has arrived.
MiMa says, "why am I not in my room?""
MiMa says, "or am I""
MiMa says, "hello?""
NickSm says, "hey"
NickSm says, "we're the only ones in here"
[Mr.Cole's Classroom] Mr.Cole says, "type 'read 1 on note'"
[Mr.Cole's Classroom] Mr.Cole leaves for the Four.
Mr.Cole has arrived.
MiMa says, "ok, so we just discuss it?""
Mr.Cole says, "hey, folks. You're a little understaffed."
NickSm says, "yup"
MiMa says, "and I have to leave in a minute""
Mr.Cole says, "So, what do you think of J's audience?"
NickSm says, "the audience is the people over here and in England"
MiMa says, "He's talking to everyone""
Mr.Cole says, "Does he have to speak to different people differently?"
MiMa says, "no, I think he explained it simply so everyone would know""
NickSm says, "i agree"
Mr.Cole says, "a universal audience, then?"
NickSm says, "yeah"
MiMa says, "yes""
NickSm says, "but he says the same words with two different emotions"
Mr.Cole says, "J. is calling for a relatively radical step -- independence. How does he make this palatable to such a wide audience?"
NickSm says, "for example, if you see this as a statement to the king, it is harsh"
Mr.Cole says, "So, could that offend people in England, for example?"
MiMa says, "yes. He wants to.""
Mr.Cole says, "Why, Mi?"
MiMa says, "But, at the same time, he's letting people over here feel good about themselves.""
NickSm says, "he explains with many details and instances how we have been oppressed and that we deserved nothing less than freedom"
NickSm says, "from pages 18 to 20 mostly"
MiMa says, "J wants to let England know we are smart and we're not going to take any more slack from them""
Mr.Cole says, "What kind of audience do those parts appeal to?"
NickSm says, "bingo"
NickSm says, "do you mean social level?"
MiMa says, "us""
Mr.Cole says, "social, geographical, political..."
MiMa says, "he's talking to every american. We may all be different, but we all still need freedom""
Mr.Cole says, "But not everyone in 18th C America wanted freedom"
NickSm says, "no but enough of them did want it"
MiMa says, "yup""
Mr.Cole says, "Enough did eventually, but early on it was tough to convince people to give up the comfortable and familiar."
Mr.Cole says, "J had to swing those people to support his position."
NickSm says, "that's why this document was so important, i guess"
[Mr.Cole's Classroom] GeraldLa has arrived.
Mr.Cole says, "Hi Jerry"
Mr.Cole says, "Can I leave y'all for a minute?"
MiMa says, "But he talked to them, and tried to tell them what would happen if they were to be controled for the rest of their lives.""
NickSm says, "sure"

MiMa says, "I don't know""

NickSm says, "well i don't have any ideas?"
NickSm says, "i'll ask cole"
MiMa says, "wait, there are the questions we have to answer""
NickSm says, "uh, i dunno"
MiMa says, "oh well""
MiMa says, "who's not here?'"
NickSm says, "i don't know, i don't remember who was assigned to our group"
MiMa says, "weel, I have to go to Gilbert. Sorry""
NickSm says, "ok, see ya"
MiMa says, "have fun!""
MiMa goes out.
Mr.Cole has arrived.
NickSm says, "MiMa has to go Mr. Cole"
[Mr.Cole's Classroom] MiMa has disconnected.
Mr.Cole says, "Right. Maybe you should go join one of the other groups. Try room 2"
NickSm says, "ok"
Mr.Cole says, "Nick..."
NickSm says, "yeah?"
Mr.Cole says, "assignments are on the note board. "
